Solid and engineered hardwood flooring are two popular options for homeowners seeking durable and aesthetically pleasing flooring solutions.

Solid Hardwood Flooring

  • Construction:  Solid hardwood flooring is made from a single piece of solid wood. It's typically 3/4 inch thick and can be sanded and refinished multiple times over its lifespan.
  • Appearance:  Available in a wide range of wood types, including oak, maple, cherry, and walnut, among others
  • Durability:  Highly durable and can last for generations when properly maintained. It adds value to a home and can be refinished to restore its original beauty.

Engineered Hardwood Flooring

  • Construction:  Engineered hardwood consists of multiple layers of wood veneer bonded together with adhesives. The top layer, known as the wear layer, is made of solid wood, while the underlying layers are typically plywood or high-density fiberboard (HDF).
  • Appearance:  Engineered hardwood offers the same elegant appearance as solid hardwood and comes in a variety of wood species and finishes. It can mimic the look of solid hardwood while offering enhanced stability.
  • Durability:  Engineered hardwood is more resistant to moisture and temperature changes compared to solid hardwood. Its layered construction provides added stability, making it less prone to warping and shrinking. While engineered hardwood can be sanded and refinished, it typically has a thinner wear layer than solid hardwood.
